Family Fun at Mississippi River State Park

Family Fun at Mississippi River State Park

A peaceful escape filled with Delta views, water adventures and natural beauty.

Mississippi River State Park is the kind of place where families can spend a weekend hopping between lakes, trails and scenic drives without ever feeling rushed. Set in the heart of the Arkansas Delta, the park offers a mix of wide-open views, quiet forest roads and water that always seems to catch the light just right.

It is an easy spot to slow down and enjoy time together, whether you are paddling across a calm lake, exploring a new trail or simply relaxing in a place that feels far away from everyday distractions.

The park sits within the St. Francis National Forest, one of the most distinctive forests in the country. Spanning more than 22,000 acres, the forest blends rolling sections of Crowley’s Ridge with the rich bottomlands of the Mississippi Delta. It is also the only place in the entire National Forest System where visitors can step onto the shoreline and take in the sweeping view of the Mississippi River. The surrounding habitat supports deer, turkey, rabbits and waterfowl, and wildlife is often spotted along the Great River Road National Scenic Byway and the Crowley’s Ridge Parkway National Scenic Byway.

Families will find plenty to enjoy inside the park. The visitor center features hands-on exhibits that share the natural and cultural story of the Delta and encourage kids to explore through interactive learning. Trails around the center include interpretive panels and a small fishing pond that is perfect for young anglers. Throughout the park, lakes offer calm water suited for boating, kayaking, fishing or swimming during warmer months.

Camping is one of the most rewarding ways to experience Mississippi River State Park. Beech Point Campground offers peaceful lakefront sites surrounded by tall trees, quiet coves and sunrise views across the water. Evenings often end with the sound of frogs, a breeze through the pines and campfires glowing along the shoreline. It is an ideal setting for families who want to unplug, spend time outdoors and appreciate the slower pace of the Delta.

With a blend of natural beauty, outdoor recreation and educational experiences, Mississippi River State Park is an easy choice for a family getaway in any season. Whether your family wants hiking, fishing or simple moments spent together in a peaceful setting, the park offers a relaxing escape rich in Delta character and full of opportunities to explore.
