Policy on Rules & Regulations

PARK DIRECTIVE 3000
State Park Rules and Regulations are established for the protection of state park property and resources, and to insure the safety, security, and peace of mind of state park visitors.
Such rules and regulations as may be published from time to time are approved by the State Parks Recreation and Travel Commission (SPRTC), and will be issued as Park Directives for inclusion in the Park Operations Manual.
In situations involving the issuance of a summons by State Park Law Enforcement Officers, reference shall be made on the citation to state park rules and regulations violation and the specific Park Directive by its number, along with a brief description of the violation.
The SPRTC authority to establish and alter public rules is as follows:
A.C.A. 22-4-104. State Parks, Recreation, and Travel Commission – Rule-making power -- Penalty.
(a) The State Parks, Recreation, and Travel Commission may establish and alter rules governing the use and protection of the state parks system and the property thereon and to preserve the peace therein.
(b) A person who violates a rule established under subsection (a) of this section shall be guilty of an unclassified misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine of at least one hundred dollars ($ 100) and not more than five hundred dollars ($ 500) or imprisonment for not more than thirty (30) days, or both.

These rules and regulations are established to enable park guests to enjoy the state’s outstanding natural, cultural, and historic resources, along with quality educational and recreational opportunities to the fullest.
